GEORGE LOWREY - ARTIST BIO
GEORGE LOWREY | Portrait 2025
George Lowrey is a contemporary artist and animator based in New York City. Known for his bold, figurative work that fuses fine art with the visual language of underground illustration, Lowrey draws on influences from comics, street culture, and subversive aesthetics. Through saturated color, stylized forms, and raw composition, his work explores identity, emotion, and the complexities of modern life.
For over a decade, Lowrey worked closely with acclaimed artist Todd James (aka REAS) as a studio assistant, contributing to painting production and traveling to support both local and international exhibitions. This long-term collaboration deeply shaped his artistic practice and provided firsthand insight into the evolving world of contemporary art.
Influenced by artists like Todd James (aka REAS) and Barry McGee (aka Twist), his work explores identity, emotion, and cosmic symbolism through saturated color and dynamic composition. His paintings have been featured in group exhibitions including Go Figure at Over the Influence (Hong Kong), The Hood Reclaims at Village Works (NYC), and Cherry Picking at The Hole (Tribeca).
